Have You Heard? Collection Development Just Got Easier |
| |
|
We hope that by now you have heard about Bowker’s recent partnerships that have resulted in the creation of two collection development tools. But if not, we will be happy to share our excitement one more time!
School & public librarians might want to know:
In January, Bowker and H.W. Wilson joined forces to aid school and public librarians with electronically comparing their collection to a core list, which in this case is one of the H.W. Wilson Standard Catalogs. Matching on ISBN and title level, Bowker’s Book Analysis System will provide four detailed types of reports to help you analyze the subject areas in your collection where you may have gaps or duplicates. All reports are provided using the Dewey Decimal Classification System. For more information, please visit www.BowkersBookAnalysis.com. Discounts are provided for current Bowker and H.W. Wilson customers.
Academic librarians might want to know:
This past June, Choice, the publishing division of ACRL (Association of College & Research Libraries), announced they had selected Bowker to be their partner in the development of the new Resources For College Libraries, the successor of 1988’s Books for College Libraries III. Making its long awaited debut, RCL will be available in both a print and Web-based version in the fall of 2006. In addition, the core list will be available to use in a new collection analysis tool that will compare the RCL selections against your library's holdings by subject. As this product continues development, we would love to keep you updated -- sign up for more information at marketing@bowker.com. |

445 Days
445 days may seem like a lot of time -- but as we all know time flies (whether you are having fun or not!). In order to accommodate the growing number of books being published each year, on January 1, 2007, the ISBN standard will officially become 13 digits rather than 10.
To ease the transition, the ISBN-13 has already been fully integrated into both BooksInPrint.com & GlobalBooksInPrint.com. You can now search by both ISBN-10 and ISBN-13, and both versions of the ISBN will appear in the full description page for every title with an ISBN.
Bowker would also like to offer an ISBN-13 “cheat sheet” website that you can periodically refer to as we approach the changeover date. Filled with FAQ’s, links to important sites, and an online conversion tool (to convert a single ISBN-10 to ISBN-13 and vice versa), BowkerSupport.com/ISBN13/ can offer a place of reference for all of your questions. Bookmark it today!

The British are Coming!
The British are Coming!
Ab Fab, Orlando Bloom, Cadbury’s Chocolate, Monty Python -- let’s face it, American’s love our friends across the pond. Ok, so maybe we are not quite as “cool” as James Bond, but we can still offer American libraries information about all things British -- all British books that is!
Bowker is proud to offer the first edition of Bowker's British Books In Print -- a new bibliographic reference tool that provides authoritative bibliographic information on titles available in the U.K. book market. Any title published or distributed in the U.K. from 1993 on is included, creating six volumes of detailed information on more than 3.4 million active ISBNS (representing 1.9 million unique titles). More than 12,700 publishers are represented which are all listed in the publisher index complete with full contact and ordering information. Look for Bowker's British Books In Print this December.
A $799 pre-publication discount price is available. For more information or to pre-order, please contact OrderInfo@bowker.com.
